Friday January 26 7:30pm-9pm ETGet to know your Middle Eastern Instruments with Issam(Includes beginner Tabla, Riqq (tambourine) and Duff). Beginner level (no dancing)Middle Eastern music creates mystery and movement through its many rhythmicinstruments. Knowing your rhythmic instruments helps dancers center theirmovements towards the pulse of the duff, the shimmy of the riqq and theliveliness of the tabla. Learn how to listen for these instruments in various MiddleEastern music and to play them in order to better your dancing and be consistentmusicians. Understanding the instruments makes Middle Eastern music lessconfusing and allows dancers and musicians to bring the richness of the musicalive without being overwhelming. Learn basic technique and rhythms for thetabla drum, riqq (tambourine) and duff drum. Great for musicians and dancers.
Saturday January 25 10am-12:00pm ETDeep Dive into Identifying and Dancing to Middle Eastern Rhythms - with Aziza and Issam. Beginner – Advance levels dance workshop (no instruments needed)Ancient Middle Eastern melodies are known for drawing us out of our seats todance. Aziza and Issam will teach why the structure of these rhythms areimportant to Middle Eastern music and calls us to dance. Understanding MiddleEastern rhythms allows dancers to move from emotion and connect with themusic. Practice short combinations that accentuates the music and givesdancers a feel for the rhythms. Ideal for both improvisational and choreographeddancing.

Learn new hand strokes fortabla players, new Middle Eastern rhythms, and techniques to creating a drumsolo. Practice Issam's approach to tabla artistry for consistent sounds, movingvolume and intricate music. (Basic tabla skills required for this workshop)
